Foxconn Nano PC Specs, Pros and Cons

Foxconn Nano PC

Pros
  • With a Sleek, brushed metal black chasiss and only a little blue little LED to indicate it's on. This one looks classy. Plus the package includes a cool stand.
  • Four USB ports at the back, two more USB 3.0 ports at the front, built-in Wi-Fi and a memory card reader the nano PC has the best connectivity.
  • The back also include a DVI port and audio out, letting you connect it to a standard monitor and PC Speakers.

Cons
  • With no preloaded operating system, the Nano PC either needs you to install a fresh version off Windows or some other OS on it. This is a huge hassle for non-techie users who are looking for a simple ready to go machine to turn into a Smart TV.
  • The size apparently comes at the cost of performance. This cannot handle FullHD MKV videos at all. Games, too, were a no-go with the Nano PC. Using Windows 7 was a sluggish and unsatisfactory experience. Linux Ubuntu runs very well but it also struggles with the remote control.
  • The Nano PC doesn't come with a remote control, keyboard, mouse, webcam. It's just a barebones PC, so you will be spending more on all of these accessories, to say nothing of a Windows license.
Specs
  • 1GHz dual core AMD C70 processor
  • AMD Radeon HD 7290 graphics
  • 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD (+4GB USB flash drive bundled)
  • 4x USB 2.0, 2xUSB 3.0 (front), 3.5mm audio (front and back)
  • 3.5mm audio in, HDMI, DVI, 5-in-1 memory card reader
  • Built-in Wi-fi, Ethernet Port
  • 190x135x38 mm

Portronics Limebox Specs, Pros and Cons

Portronics Limebox

Pros
  •  It is a cute-looking device. Its florescent green-white body and pizza slice like shape makes it look cute. If you like funky, Limebox suits you well.
  • Unlike many other manufacturers, this has a remote control with a convenient button to switch the Limebox on and off, saving you the trouble of getting out of your chair - makes a world of a difference when watching TV shows or movies.
  • It plays FullHD MKV file (a heavier format than MP4 or AVI)  smoothly. Once connected to Wi-Fi it can even play FullHD YouTube videos without a hiccup.
Cons
  • This has a custom home screen meant to be used with, its remote but beyond that, it's plain old Android that doesn't work as well with smart boxed as it does with phones.
  • The lack of mouse or keyboard does effect its usability. The remote is great when you want to use the media, but the arrow keys are painful to scroll around or type each letter with. And how can you play Angry Birds if you don't have a touch screen or a mouse.
  • Few apps from the play store work well. Preloaded apps work good.
Specs
  • 1.2 GHz Rockchip processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB internal memory, SD card slot
  • 2XUSB 2.0 optical audio, HDMI, Composite (RGB) AV Port
  • built-in Wi-Fi, Ethernet Port
  • 190x150x78mm
  • Android 2.3

Zotac Zbox Nano XS AD11 Specs, Pros and Cons

Zotac Zbox Nano XS AD11 will make your dreams of having a Smart TV come true. Yeah, its true. So here I go with Pros, Cons and Specs.

Pros
  • It's tiny! No really, you have to see it to realize how tiny it is. It's a 4x4 inch gizmo about 2 inches in height. And all these make the Zbox Nano XS AD11 a pretty nifty looking gadget.
  • But the size is not only the best thing. It is a full PC that can take anything you throw at it. Add a keyboard and mouse and you can even use it as a desktop. It boots up quickly and runs Windows 7 smoothly. Heavy-duty gaming or image editing does slow it down to a crawl, but it managed to play some new games on medium to low settings without stuttering.
  • Zotac has bundled a Window Media Center remote control as well as a webcam for Skype calls.
Cons
  • The lack of preloaded operating system is a huge problem. The Zbox Nano starts seeming a little overpriced when you add the cost of a Windows license. If you're loading up a free operating system like Linux Ubuntu, setting up the remote control isn't easy for an average user.
  • make no mistake about it, the XS AD11 is a full-fledged but what's a PC without mouse and a keyboard. Those are additional costs again. And you'll ideally want wireless variants of both.
  • The four USB ports at the back quickly get used up by a keyboard, mouse, Wi-Fi dongle and Webcam, leaving only the eSATA/USB combo port at the front. Too little.
  • The Media center remote only makes sense if you have Windows installed, which is the worst part about the XS AD11.
Specs
  • 1.65GHz dual-core AMD E450 processor
  • AMD Radeon HD 6320 graphics
  • 2GB RAM, 64GB mSATA SSD
  • 2X USB 2.0, 2X USB 3.0, eSATA /USB 2.0 combo
  • 3.5mm audio in, HDMI, 6-in-1 memory card reader
  • Wi-Fi dongle, Ethernet port
  • 106x106x37mm

Akai Smart Box Pros, Cons and Specs

Wanna have a smart TV but cannot afford it? Don't worry cause here's Akai Smart Box to do that for you. Just connect it and you can turn your TV into a smart TV. Amazing, ain't it? So lets start with Pros and Cons.

Pros
  • The wireless mouse which comes along with the box is the best. Well, there's gotta be one for these devices. For a TC with Smart TV with a operating system, its ridiculous not to have a mouse. The right click becomes a shortcut for 'Back' in Android, making the interface easier to navigate.
  • Akai's smart box sports a custom interface. And while it isn't great to look at, its UI with shortcut categories such as media games etc actually makes a sense. It provides quick access to the right app and gels with Android just well enough to be intuitive without sacrificing functionality.

Cons
  • Preloaded run like charm and this covers office apps, media players, social networking and some games. But downloaded apps work disastrously. Most of the apps crash very often.
  • While FullHD AVI videos played well, the device struggles with MKV movies in FullHD  (though 720p HD MKV files ran smoothly). Also there seems to be an old yellow tingle to all the videos played through the smart box and this is most noticeable with animated films.
  • Mouse, which comes with this device, isn't as convenient as a remote when you're watching videos on TV, but that's a small sacrifice.
Specs
  • 1.2 GHz ARM Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB Flash memory, SD card slot (up to 32 GB)
  • 4X USB 2.0, 3.5mm audio in, HDMI, Composite AV port
  • Buikt-in Wi-Fi, Ethernet Port
  • 155X120X30mm
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Few Steps To Lift The Page Rank

Google Page Rank has been updated again. The last update took place in August 2012, and the one before that on May 2012. So its pretty obvious that Google is now rolling out these updates quarterly. So the next update is expected to be in the first week of February 2013. And keep in mind that Google PR should not be the priority for you.

As most of you might already know, PageRank is Google's way of asigning a grade to website from 1 to 10. Google rates itself at PR9. And for blogs with little or no investment, the maximum PR ahieved yet is 6. Blogs such as Mashable, Techcrunch, Search Engine Land etc. are corporate websites run by an organiaztion. They have multiple authors as well as marketers and managers who manage and promote the website at the back end all of which requires investment. So, for a low investment blog, the target should be 6. PR is just a way of rating websites. Website with a high PR get crawled and indexed more frequently. For example, a PR 8 website might get crawled several times in minute, whereas a PR 4 or 5 website might be crawled just once per minute. PR is also one of the factors advertisers look for in a blog, but is by no means the only factor. There are a lot of toher factors they look at first.

Well, if you're PR has dropped, don't worry. You can pick it up still. Lots of people think hundreds of backlinks is the way to go. That couldn't be further from the truth. Instead of having hundreds backlinks, its better to just concentrate on having just a few very high quality backlinks. So stop wasting your time commenting on low PR blogs for backlinks. Reather, write a good guest on a high PR blog. Adopt this practice, and you'll see your PR increase in the next update. Besides that, you should concentrate on the quality of your page, as well as some of the basic SEO, so that google recognizes your effort.

As mentioned, PR is just one of the factors advertisers look for in a blog. But there are other more important factors as well. The first thing they look for is your readership, i.e., whether you have an active community of followers who participate on yourblog. Thencomes social media fan following, and even though such stats could be inflated, it is the activity about your blog that counts. Next comes traffic stats, and Alexa ranking. Advertisers look for how many people visit a site daily, and Alexa is a good stats provider.

Tips for creating Facebook Offers

Well, in previous posts, we've been discussing about Facebook offers. You all might know by now that this feature lets you promote your brand by offering people rewards by visiting your website or your brand's physical location. But creating offers isn't enough to spread your brand. To make that offer work, you have to utilize the maximum potential of your audience by designing a successful offer, and keeping the FB marketing tips in mind. And as you're spending money on creating offers, you have to be extra careful, as a slight mistake might result in a loss of your business. Offers can completely change your business. They might be a game-changer, if placed correctly. Every business has different types of customers. So, it's always a good idea to experiment with what offers work best for your customers. If the offer seems like a scam to the customers, they might unlike your page. So, we're gonnna discuss some tips for designing a succesful offer.

Keep it as Simple as Possible
The most important part about an offer is its simplicity. If it's easy to understand, a lot of people will do it, just for the sake of participating. But if the process is complicated, and makes users fo through an unusual activity, like signing up, sharing something etc., then that will substantially reduce the number of people who participate. So, try to make the process simple, and exaplain Terms Of Service in simple words.

Discount Offers
Make your discounts substantial. No one's gonna bother if you offer 50 or 10% off on a t-shirt. Discounts become notable and intriguing at 20%. You can even offer free items through offers such as 'Buy one get one free'. But at the same time, make your discount believable. Make no mistake, business do hand out such lavish gifta, but you've gotta have some reputation before you make such bold offers.

Image Does Matter
Most of the time, products sell better if other people see a customer using it. So it'd be a good idea to use an image that displays the offer rather than your brand logo or an image with just the product.

Take Care Of The Headline
Your headline is one the most important things. Make it engaging, but natural. Caption it as if you're talking in the real world, and as naturally as possible. Don't escessively capitalize and don't use extravagent words. Keep it simple, understandable and at the same time make the purpose crystal clear.

Promote
Spread your offer. Reshare your offer as much as possible and encourage other to do so. Share on other social networks such as Pinterest as well, so maximum number of people might access it. Usually, word-of-mouth-marketing works like a charm in this situation.

Expiry Date
Set up a reasonable expiry date. Don't make it too short, that most people would miss it. Don't make it too long or it'll lose a sense of emergency. It depends on the offers though. But around a week or 2 is legit.

New Composing Email feature in Gmail

Google is trying to expand its influence by introducing new features. And it has recently introduced a new feature in Gmail. To be frank, that's quite awesome. It allows you to compose emails much faster and easier. Gmail is used by most of us. Not just because of the storage given but because of its interface even. And, its fast, secure and easy to use. And now its much easier. So, here's the new feature.
This new feature lets you compose emails lot faster than before. You can not only compose but also reply emails just as quickly and easily.

Getting Started
Actually there's nothing to do to get this feature. You automatically get it. After logging in, if you're not told about this feature, you will see a pop-up about this new feature. That's it. I already said you gotta do nothing, right?

This feature seems more like Facebook's chat pop-up. You just click the Compose button and a tab pops up below. It has everything you need to send an email like options to upload pictures, smileys etc..

Advantages
If you're stuck in between composing a mail and you wanna refer something in the previos mail, you can just minimize the Compose tab and go through the previous emails.
As said, its faster and simpler, and works quite well.
You can compose multiple emails at once.

Google Said It
"The new compose is designed to let you focus on what's important: your message" Google says, "The controls are still there when you need them but get out of the way when you don't. We've even added some new features like the ability to easily insert inline images and have more to come."
You can also drag-and-drop the new address chips between to:, cc: and bcc:," Google added, when you're done adding recipients, the address area collapses automatically to get out of your way."

I'll upload a video soon!!

Nokia 360 Portable Speaker Review

Nokia 360
This supports Near Field Communication (NFC) letting you pair Nokia NFC- enabled handsets with it by merely touching both devices together. This works with Bluetooth, and carries an aux Line-In to connect MP3 players. Battery life is monstrous. Coming to output, this is not that loud. Acoustic and classic tones seem warmer and bass is more pronounced. The coolest thing is that two of these can be paired together wirelessly to create true stereo sound.Still, Even a single unit works wonderfully. But when it comes to price, its a bit costly. It hasn't got a microphone to attend calls.

Specs
  •  Frequency Response - 20hz - 20kHz
  • Sensitivity - 80db
  • Rechargeable, Replaceable Battery, approximate battery life 21 hours
  • Optional Power Supply - USB Power Cord
  • Output Power - 2.1W
  • 3.5mm auxiliary input

Portable Speaker about the size of a Bar of a Soap!!

F&D M8

This one is small and has flat speakers. To be exact, its about the size of a bar of a soap and this makes it really easy to carry. This also has a microphone. So, you can answer calls whenever your phone is connected to it wirelessly. It has all bases covered to make it for a great smartphone accessory. The speakers sounds slightly louder. There's an underlying audible hiss and a notable absence of bass. Overall, its quite disappointing.

Specs
  • Frequency Response - 100Hz - 20kHz
  • Sensitivity - 65db
  • Rechargeable, Replaceable batter
  • Optional Power Supply - USB Charging Cable
  • Output Power - 1.2W
  • 3.5mm auxiliary input
  • Microphone for attending calls

Portable Speaker from JBL

JBL Fip
This is the, honestly, the best portable Bluetooth speaker. The sound output is at its best. It looks perfect. Wonderful build quality. This device is primarily is cylindrical in shape, but tapering at the back to prevent it from rolling off your table. Anyways, you can use it as you like, flat like a soundbar or standing in a column. Call quality is sterling and audio is crisp. It's speaker is made of metal grill.
Coming to output, it's loud and rich. Vocals sound clean. This never disappoints at any volume levels and genres like rock, classic, pop etc.. Besides its cheap.

Specs
  • Frequency Response - 150Hz - 20kHz
  • Sensitivity - 80db
  •  Built-in Rechargeable battery, approximate battery life 5 hours

Wireless Speakers for your Mobile Phone

Creative D80
This is a device from a n altogether different generation of Bluetooth speakers. This speaker almost weighs a kilogram. It has no rechargeable battery. It doesn't come with a microphone. So, you cannot attend a call through this speaker. But wait, this doesn't mean that this is not a proper one to use. It delivers sound that is loud enough to fill a medium-sized room. It works wonderfully even the volume is at its peak. High and mid-range level sounds sharp, and the bass levels are deep.
This is not exactly top-notch speaker. It needs a power source at hand. So, it is unfit for outdoor use. But its quite suitable to a hostel room or a kid's bedroom.

Specs
  • Frequency Response - 20Hz - 20kHz
  • Sensitivity - 80db
  • Power Supply - Power Cord (No optional power supply)
  • 3.5mm auxiliary input
  • 1.06 Kg

Portable Speakers for your Smart-phone

Logitech Mini Boombox
This is an always-ready sort of pocket speaker. Pair it once and it eagerly latches on every time you connect via Bluetooth. This connects quickly. Just switch it on and it goes into the pairing mode, indicated by a flashing blue light under the metal grill. It has a glossy top, illuminated by red lights, displaying a touch-sensitive panel with controls to wirelessly pause what's playing on your phone, replay the previous track or play the next song. The volume control and touch function lets you answer call through the speaker's bulit-in microphone. Its glossy panel tends to accumulate fingerprints. It looks cute, though. Speaker performs wonderfully with loud output which is enough to fill a small or medium sized room.
Bass lines are rendered with a discernable thump that's surprising for a speaker of that size.It plays acoustic and classical music well. Phone calls are clear. Microphone works properly. Last but not the least, its build quality is good. It doesn't come with travel pouch, though.

Specs
  • Frequency response - 200hz to 15hz
  • Sensitivity - 75db
  • Built-in rechargeable battery, approximate battery life 5 hours
  • Optional Power Supply - USB Charging Cable
  • Output - 2x3W
  • 3.5mm auxiliary input

Facebook Barcodes and Redemption Codes

As said before in one of my previous posts, Facebook offers let you promote your band or products by giving out rewards to people who visit your website or your brand's physical location. These rewards may be anything, like an eBook to a small gift hamper to an entry into a lucky draw for a larger prize. Now, we'll talk about the different types of offers and how to redeem codes or Barcodes for people to be able to redeem your offers.

As said, there are three types of offers.
In Store Only - Offer can only be redeemed by visiting your brand's physical location
Online Only - Offer can only be redeemed by visiting your website
In Store and Online - Offer can be redeemed by both ways.

For online redemption, you will need a redeem code, which can't be used in Store only. On the other hand, barcode can only be used for In Store type, and not online.

Adding Barcode
Barcodes can be added when you create an In Store offer. They can be scanned easily, and then used to redeem your promotion or discount offers. To add a barcode, click on the barcode icon once you've entered a headline for your offer. Add a barcode here. You can enter a 12-digit Universal Product Code barcode (UPC-A barcode), or a 13 digit EAB barcode. Make you format the number properly. Preview the barcode to see how it looks, and make sure it is readable. Most of the smartphones can scan barcode through an apps if they have a camera with focus. So, people will be able to scan this barcodes right from their smartphones.

Adding Redemption Code
Adding an online redemption code is quite easy, if you want people to enter a code on your website to receive a discount, then choose an Online option. Create your offer (refer previous post). Enter the web address where people can get your offer, and add a redemption code (maximum 50 charecters). Click Next and that's it, you're done.

How Does It Work
When someone claims your offer, they get an email with detailed instructions on how to redeem the offer, along with barcodes/redemption codes. They will also get your terms and conditions with the expory date included. But you gotta note that these barcodes and redeem codes aren't designed to prevent people from redeeming your offer multiples.

Creating Offers in Facebook

Facebook has just recently launched a new feature for brand pages. Its called Page offers. These are basically rewards for audience or customers who can claim them by visiting store or online website of the page ad also share with their friends. This offer not only engages your current customers or audience on a new level, but also extends the reach of your service or brand in Facebook. Offers require a budget to run, but could be worth the investment your brand has been in need of. So lets take a look at how you can create offers and what you can do with them.

There are three types of offers, Only Store, Only Online, In Store and Online. In Only Store you can only be redeemed by customers visiting your brand's physical location. In Only Online you can only be redeemed by visiting your website, and In Store and Online can be redeemed in both places.

How To Create an Offer
Go to your Facebook page, look at the sharing tool. Click on Offer, Event + and then on Offer. You will now get to choose from among the three types of offers(discussed above). For Online offers, you can set a redeem code, and for In Store offers, you can set a bar code. Now you gotta fill the details. Give a Strong headline for your offer, such as "50% Cash Back". Upload a photo for your offer, select a limit for the number of offers. You can either restrict it to a limit or make it unlimited. Next come to Terms and Conditions. You can set your own by clicking on Terms, and type them out. You can also set an expiration date by clicking on Today and clicking on a future date. Now you're almost done with creating an offer. Just click on preview, see if it looks alright. If so, then move on to the next step.

Cost and Budget
Running offers require a budget. Generally, the more you pay, the farther it spreads i.e., more people can access your offer. While creating an offer and adding a budget, you can click on More Options to see what payment methods and advertising account you are using. While creating an offer, you can choose from among some suggested budgets, or set a custom budget from the Ads Manager by checking the option Promote Later Using Another Facebook Ad Tool.

As mentioned, your reach will depend on your budget. This is the number of people who see your offers in their news-feed. More budget means more people will be able to see it. You can see your reach automatically when setting a budget.

How does it work
Offers are pretty simple. People get rewards for visiting your website, or your brand's physical location. When someone claims your offer, they get an email with detailed instructions on how to redeem the reward. The email will also include a redeem code or a barcode, and the Terms and Conditions of that offer along with its expiration date.

What products can be promoted
As far as FB is concerned, you can post offers for promotions of any products. But be mindful of the law in your are, and whether your are legally allowed to promote them. Keeping that in minf, you can promote anything , even alcoholic products and pharmaceutical drugs etc.

Wibbitz : Turn your Blog posts into a Video

Most of the people, especially Bloggers use their writings to convey their message to their readers. Well, what if we use images or videos? that might be more effective. Of course most of you might be doing that but how about presenting your blog posts in the form an awesome video? Cause most of the people are not interested to read such lengthy posts. Now you might not know how to create and edit a video, but don't worry, here's a tool for you. Its Wibbitz. This tool will help you make a video from your blog posts with little effort.

Wibbitz is a web app that will crawl your website and extract the important information. This will then be converted into an audio and video presentation. The audio can include narrations of your latest blog posts, so that your readers can hear the updates rather than reading them. This is relatively unique, simple and effective concept, isn't it? You can use this for better advertisement of your website. A video can say a lot about your website or blog, and this will get you more followers as a result of video marketing.

How to create a video using Wibbitz
The following are the simple steps.
Visit Wibbitz Homepage.
Fill the email and site URL fields, and click on Create Your Clip. (You'll find them at the bottom of the page)

Once finished you'll get an embed code for your video. Well, this is all you need. Now, if you want to customize this video, you can do it using the Customize Clip option. Now, you'll be able to re-size the video, put in a voice over, or put in Loop or Autoplay. You can also change the Soundtrack from among the six different options. Once you're done, click on Update Clip.

After the video is generated, you can use the embed code to publish the video. The video shows latest posts and even provides an option in the video itself to read the whole post.

This is a pretty good tool. This will create HTML5 embed code for you, which will be accessible across multiple devices. The voice synthesizer is pretty good too, with just a single hint of synthesized speech. The biggest drawback is that it can't process special characters such as the apostrophe. So, it speaks out HTML codes for them, which sounds awkward.

Here's the video tutorial.

Nikon S800 Coolpix Review

The Nikon Coolpix S800C is a camera running on Android. You might think "What? Camera running on Android!!" But yeah its true, it has a 16mp sensor and 10x optical zoom. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Switch it on and you are prompted to connect Wi-Fi with its built-in receiver and set up the device with a Google account. The camera latches on to wireless connections easily, and just like that, you're ready to go. Email, Browsing, Social networking work smoothly, and the play store lets you download Android apps. It has 1.7GB internal memory. Games like Angry Birds and Subway Surfer works flawlessly. Its 3.5 inch touchscreen responds promptly to taps and swipes. But 3D games like Dead Trigger crashes now and then.

Well, it has a 16MP sensor and 10x optical zoom, the cameras output is on par with similar shooters. Videos shot are in FullHD with stereo sound, colors look realistic and pictures are sharp. When compared with the superzooms, the photo output is almost identical. So the now choice is between greater optical zoom. Still, the S800c is not about the camera alone. It's a device that needs to be judged along with the apps that it lets you run. With Android, users find it easy to build their own camera by choosing from a wide array of photo apps. With Instagram and Pixlr-o-matic on the shooter, we could click a photo, apply effects, and even upload it to the internet if there was a Wi-Fi connection at hand. Images after that kind of digital processing look fantastic despite the apps processing lower-res downscaled images.

On the other hand, lack of 3G capability can be frustrating because you have to wait till you're in a Wi-Fi zone to share your videos and pics with your friends and family. The camera's battery life isn't good. This S800c has a CIPA rating of 140shots per charge. And this is excluding the web browsing and apps. So, you can expect no more than 80 shots per charge if you wanna surf internet and use camera simultaneously.

Overall, the Nikon S800c is a decent first attempt at merging a smart OS with proper camera hardware. The true capability of this sort of camera will be realized when developers start developing apps that can process large size images and take advantage of the superior optics and image processors. Still, when coupled with today's apps, the S800c is capable of better pictures than most of the cameras.

Specs
  • 16 MP CMOS Sensor
  • Expeed C2 processor
  • 10X Nikkor Optical lens
  • f/3.2-5.8
  • ISO up to 3200
  • Image stabilization, Panorama mode, Face detection
  • 1080p FullHD video recording
  • 3.5inch OLED touchscreen
  • 1.7GB internal memory, SD memory card slot
  • Wi-Fi, GPS, HDMI USB 3.0
  • 1050mAh Li-ion battery, average 40-50 shots with browsing and app use

Prime your new PC

Bought a new PC, here is what you gotta do. The first thing you need to do is to get your system up-to-date. And yeah you heard me right cause even new PC's need overhauling. So, lets start.

Remove All The Unnecessary Things
When you switch on your new computer, you are likely to find useless or junk software pre-installed  by the vendor. Most of these software might be trial versions of browsers, anitvirus software etc.. These are likely to slow down your computer, especially if they are configured to load at boot-up. Well, the best way to deal with these software is to uninstall it. If you're not comfortable with what to uninstall and what not to, ask a techie friend for help.
Got no techie friends? Here's PC Decrapifier for help. This is a free program that cleans junk software from PCs. Just install this program, run it and follow the instructions. That's it, you're done.

Install a Proper Antivirus
